So what is Success, Really?

Mar 22, 2026

What Is Success, Really?

Sometimes when I go on a walk alone, I pray.

I ask God questions like:

What do You want me to know about this situation? What am I supposed to learn here?

On one of those walks recently, a simple but powerful question came to my mind:

What is my definition of success?

If someone asked me that today, what would I say?

I thought about it, the more I realized that success looks different for everyone. Yet underneath all of our different goals, dreams, and experiences, there may be one deeper truth that connects us all.

We live in a world that often measures success by money, titles, popularity, appearance, or possessions. It is easy to look at someone with influence, wealth, or recognition and assume they have made it. But what if they have all of those things and still feel empty? What if they have what looks like success on the outside, but no peace, no joy, and no fulfillment?

Is that really success?

I do not believe it is.

Success Is More Than Achievement

For many of us, success can feel like a destination. We think that once we hit the next goal, reach the next milestone, or finally get where we have been trying to go, then we will feel accomplished and complete.

But life rarely works that way.

There is always another challenge.

Another lesson.

Another season.

Another opportunity to grow.

That is why I have started to see success differently.

Maybe success is not about arriving at all.

Maybe success is about continuing to move forward with purpose.

That perspective has meant a lot to me lately, especially while building something new. Starting a business, stepping into unfamiliar territory, and carrying the weight of a vision can be exciting, but it can also be exhausting. There have been moments when the pressure felt heavy. Moments when discouragement tried to speak louder than purpose. Moments when negative self-talk tried to return.

Questions like:

Why did I start this?

Is this worth it?

Am I enough?

Those thoughts are real. But they do not have to be final.

Sometimes Success Looks Like a Reset

One of the biggest lessons I am learning is this:

Success does not mean you never struggle.

It does not mean you never feel tired.

It does not mean you always have it all together.

Sometimes success looks like realizing you need to pause.

Sometimes it looks like resting, praying, taking a walk, stepping away for a moment, and allowing yourself to breathe. Sometimes it means letting yourself feel what you feel without letting those feelings become your permanent address.

That is not weakness.

That is wisdom.

There are seasons when success is simply choosing not to stay stuck.

Success can look like resetting your mind.

Success can look like caring for your emotional well-being.

Success can look like reconnecting with your purpose, your family, and your gratitude.

Success Is Rooted in Resilience

When I think about true success, I think about the people in my life who have modeled it in ways the world might overlook.

I think about resilience.

I think about perseverance.

I think about quiet strength.

True success is not always loud. It is not always glamorous. Often, it is found in the quiet determination of someone who refuses to quit.

It is found in surviving hard seasons.

In continuing to love through pain.

In showing up even when life feels heavy.

In choosing faith, gratitude, and courage again and again.

That kind of success deserves to be honored.

You May Be More Successful Than You Think

As I reflected on all of this, I realized something important:

I am successful.

Not because life has been perfect.

Not because every decision has been easy.

Not because every path has been smooth.

I am successful because I have kept going.

I have learned.

I have grown.

I have built meaningful relationships.

I have created a life rooted in purpose and gratitude.

I have walked through hard things and come out stronger.

Even the parts of life that once felt like failure taught me something.

Sometimes what feels like failure is really preparation.

Sometimes what feels like loss is actually redirection.

Sometimes what ends is making room for what is meant to begin.

That does not erase the pain of hard seasons. But it does remind us that hard seasons are not wasted.

So, What Is Success?

If you asked me now, I would say this:

Success is the ability to keep moving.

It is having gratitude for what you have already built while staying open to what is next.

It is honoring how far you have come without losing hope for where you are going.

It is continuing to grow, continuing to trust God, and continuing to move with purpose.

For one person, success may look like building a business.

For another, it may look like healing.

For someone else, it may look like learning how to rest, receive peace, and enjoy the life they have already built.

Success is personal. But at its core, true success is rooted in perseverance, purpose, and perspective.

Keep moving. Keep growing. Keep going.

Trust God.

That may be the truest kind of success there is.
